Alan L. Grodin is a partner in
the firm's entertainment department. His practice is
primarily focused on motion picture and television clients,
and he has extensive experience in connection with the
financing, production, distribution and acquisition
of motion pictures as well as the development, production
and licensing of television programs.
Mr. Grodin also has extensive experience in the music
industry and has represented recording companies, recording
artists, music publishers, songwriters and composers.
Mr. Grodin's clients include directors, writers and
producers of motion picture and television programs.
Mr. Grodin has been involved in a number of high profile,
successful motion picture and television projects. He
has represented producers and filmmakers from the initial
stage of rights acquisition through the assembly of
the production elements and the financing, production
and licensing of the project. Mr. Grodin has had extensive
experience in the area of international co-finance and
production with films produced in Asia, Europe and Africa.
Mr. Grodin's recent significant activities include:
- Licensing of a 600 title film
library for worldwide distribution
- Negotiation of a studio co-financing
production agreement for a major feature film
- Negotiation of the first international
feature film co-production between a major U.S. studio
and a Chinese-based company
- Negotiation of director’s
agreements for services on several major feature films
budgeted in excess of $100 million
- Representation of a major
Asian star/director with a U.S. studio for a major
motion picture produced in the U.S.
- Representation of a client
in connection with the development of a film studio
in Capetown, South Africa
- All legal work on a complex
documentary motion picture which is being theatrically
released worldwide
- Representation of a start-up
U.S. theatrical motion picture distributor in connection
with its general operations
Mr. Grodin is a member of the Board of Visitors of the
College of Communications at Pennsylvania State University.
Mr. Grodin received his B.S. from Pennsylvania State
University in 1964 and received his L.L.B. from NYU
in 1967. After graduation from law school, Mr. Grodin
was a clerk for the United States Federal Court for
the Eastern District of New York.
